Charity Assistant has been formed as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, to provide assistance and education to and about nonprofits, also referred to as the community benefit sector. It is in the process of applying for exemption as an organization exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The specific purposes of Charity Assistant, as stated in its articles of incorporation are:
-
To develop systems through which any nonprofit organization that needs and wants assistance can find it at a fair price.
-
To establish procedures and processes to organize and operate nonprofit organizations correctly, legally, and simply, and with little or no prior training.
-
To provide quality services to nonprofit organizations.
-
To make access to experts available to nonprofit organizations to the extent possible.
-
To provide resources by which nonprofit organizations may obtain necessary information, so that they don’t fail out of ignorance or because of misguided advice.
-
To see that the laws of this land do not impose unjust burdens on exempt organizations, to review proposed legislation affecting nonprofits, and to see that any changes necessary to preserve the rights of the nonprofits are made before adoption of the law, to educate legislators as to the impact of proposed laws on nonprofit organizations, and to provide information about how nonprofits actually function and should function.
